Bio

Joey Slater grew up in Gloucestershire, England. Her music taste is a combination of a 9-year-old girl in 1996, a teenage Green Day fan in 1995, and a middle-aged dad who claims that music hasn’t been good since 1979.

As a solo artist, Joey released her second full-length record Envisionism in August 2019. Prior to that, her first solo album Defiantly Maybe was a mostly-improvised DIY record, tracked over the span of two days during a visit to New York, and was released in 2012.

In 2020, Joey set herself the challenge of writing and recording an EP in just one day. The result was the Fashion Show At Lunch EP, named after a line from The Office.

Since 2007 Joey has been one half of indie pop duo The Ventura Project. To date The Ventura Project have released two albums, TVP (2011) and Novopangaea (2014). They have toured the UK and Europe as an opening act for Wheatus, and co-wrote and recorded the song “Distracted” with Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown.

Sometime towards the end of 2021, Joey thought it would be funny to write Christmas songs all year. The result is the ‘Twelve Months of Christmas‘ project.

Joey regularly performs in multiple acts, most notably as a backing vocalist in the rock band Wheatus.

As a session player, Joey has performed as guitarist and backing vocalist with singer-songwriter Gabrielle Sterbenz, and also as part of NYC theatre composer Gaby Alter’s pop ensemble Yes Gabriel, playing bass, guitar and backing vocals.
